I am Shirley “Sam" Tait a fine artist and illustrator. I grew up in a small fishing community on the beautiful coast of Maine where my ongoing love of the ocean and coastline underlies and inspires my work. My interest in capturing nature, oceanside communities, colorful characters, and small glimpses of whimsical items in watercolor had its beginnings as a young girl.
Most of my leisure time was spent enjoying the ocean and
beautiful beaches, or helping my father haul his lobster traps. There were
of days where the water was rough and the work hard but on those calm ocean days it was tranquilizing. I took advantage and swallowed it all in.
Over the years I've captured a lot of the scenery from my father's lobster boat, others from various fishing docks, back country roads in our community and throughout New England. Painting backyard birds, small critters and wildlife is also a favorite. Detail is important to me, its my style of painting. I want my clients to see what I see and feel what I feel.
My series of snowmen paintings and greeting cards were inspired by the many snowmen my sisters and I had built together as kids and some were inspired by friends. Each has its own personality and character. My hope is that you will enjoy them and be encouraged by them and maybe even purchase one for yourself or for a friend as you visit through my site. They’ll definitely put a smile on your face.
